Created as a companion to the existing memorial at the state capitol, this bronze sculpture captures the solemn ritual of a uniformed officer kneeling as she presents a folded flag to the family of a fallen comrade—an enduring gesture of honor, sacrifice, and remembrance.
In a divided world, the Honor Guard offers the flag not just to a grieving family, but to all who stand before it—an invitation to share in collective loss, unity, and reverence. Slatoff chose to depict the officer with an almost angelic presence—an embodiment of grace and compassion, there to console the brokenhearted and remind of the quiet strength found in service and sorrow.
